Svensson 49 is the first hardware instrument from Swedish app developer Auxy. Packed with expressive sounds by True Cuckoo and equipped with a 4-track looper that just knows what you want to do, Svensson looks like an idea machine par excellence.

‘Idea machines’ are in high demand right now: intuitive, inspiring instruments without complicated menus, complex sound engines, confusing screens, and similar distractions. After Tame Impala’s hugely successful Orchid chord synth, here comes Auxy’s vision of what such an instrument should look like. Unveiled just in time for Superbooth 26, Svensson 49 is a gorgeous looping keyboard without any unneccessary ballast, but with a workflow that just screams inspiration.
Auxy enlisted none other than YouTuber True Cuckoo to create the sounds for Svensson. Having teased the new keyboard over the past few weeks, it’s no surprise that Cuckoo is also the one who gets to let us all in on Svensson’s secrets.
Featuring a minimalist, distinctively Scandinavian design, a metal body with solid oak sides, a 49-key keybed from Fatar, and a built-in speaker from Swedish speaker guru Ingvar Öhman, Svensson is a feast for the senses. I don’t doubt for a second that it’s well made; you can tell even from a distance that they’ve paid close attention to how it feels in your hands.

What’s even more exciting, however, is what it can do. The idea is to just start playing and looping, letting the expressive sounds guide you to new and inspiring ideas. And you don’t even have to press Record: Svensson automatically remembers everything you play. Found a phrase that sounds good? Simply press the Loop button after the fact to begin overdubbing and adding layers.
Svensson puts a new meaning to ‘bread and butter’ sounds · Source: Auxy
Speaking of layers: there are four of these, labeled Drums, Bass, Bread, and Butter. The sounds, however, are anything but the typical ‘bread and butter’ sounds you might expect from a portable keyboard. Cuckoo has come up with some unique sounds that respond expressively to your playing and explore the middle ground between acoustic and electronic. According to Auxy, the sound engine uses a mix of wavetables and samples. They don’t share any details, but that would be missing the point. After all, we’re here to avoid thinking about such technicalities.

Loops can be any length, and the length doesn’t have to be the same for each part. I also really like that complete loops can be saved to the keys of the keyboard, so you can jam with them. For quick sound shaping and sonic exploration, Svensson has three macro controls (Tone, Mood, Shape).
I really dig the concept, Svensson looks like a perfect cure for writer’s block. If you find yourself needing a break from your DAW once in a while, this playful and inspiring ‘idea machine’ should get the job done.
Price and Availability
According to Auxy, Svensson is almost ready for pre-order. The price isn’t set in stone yet, but it should be around $999 / €899. You can sign up for the newsletter on the developer’s website so you don’t miss the pre-order window. They expect to ship the first units in early fall 2026.
You can visit Auxy at booth H154 at Superbooth.
