Tone City is popular for a reason. The pedal maker keeps on releasing very well-made and great-sounding effects at very reasonable prices. This seems to be the case for the Loong and all the other pedals of this release. Can’t go wrong with budget or mini versions famous pedals!

Tone City Loong: Dual-Voiced Preamp

First up, we’ve got the Loong, a dual-voiced preamp and distortion unit. Both voicings go into “British” red and blue voicing territory, tonally speaking. You get to choose between them, and then dial in your sound. Voice 1 offers a tight switch to add more bass and goes more into high-gain sonics, while voice 2 includes a lead/rhythm switch while offering more Marshall-y flavors.

You also get separate three-band EQs for each voice and a dedicated footswitch to switch between voice 1 and 2. The pedal also includes a mono FX loop.

It’s 199 euros from Thomann*.

Tone City Legend Series: Green Tube, Blue Crystal, and Golden Face Fuzz

In addition to the mighty Loong Preamp, Tone City is also showing three additions to its Legends series. Each one is a close approximation of a legendary distortion sound. Green Tube* is a TS-style drive with an added compression switch for expanded tonal options.

Blue Crystal*, by name and sonics, seems to go more into Bluesbreaker territory, or other “transparent” overdrive sounds like those you can get from Dumble amps. And finally, Golden Face Fuzz* gets a you-Hendrix-esque fuzz sound – the Dunlop-flavored kind.
