VirtualDJ 2026: Mixing Meets the “Atomization” of Music
VirtualDJ 2026 has been built around AI integration since its very first version. The same goes for the final third update, which brings even more AI functions into the DJ software.
For classic mixing, the new features don’t necessarily add real value, at least from my point of view. If you see mixing as a complete “atomization” of music, on the other hand, this opens up entirely new and maybe slightly creepy possibilities.
That applies especially to the new features ShoutOut and AI scripting, which let you change vocals via text and create new scripts for the app through simple prompts. From Atomix’s perspective, VirtualDJ 2026 is getting AI features that are really practical for DJs, and the goal isn’t supposed to be following trends for the sake of it. Let’s take a closer look at everything.
Custom Voiceovers, Prompt-Based Scripts, and Better Streaming Support
Since the release of VirtualDJ 2026 last December, there was already a second update, which uses AI to generate automatic visuals that run in sync with the beat. A fluid beatgrid and a BPM stabilizer were introduced too. On top of that, the automatic, AI-assisted lyric detection got some improvements.
The update that’s now been released brings further new features.
ShoutOut lets you create your own voiceovers and lyrics inside a running track. Among other things, that covers personalized drops, live edits, and announcements. You can pull all of that off without ever leaving the DJ software. This video shows the feature in action:
AI scripting is basically about DJs creating their own customizations and extensions inside the software, without needing serious programming skills. That’s definitely a direction that other apps will likely take in a similar form. Ableton Live, for example, now offers Extensions.
With simply worded prompts, users can now generate scripts with the latest update to reshape how the software is operated, adapt workflows to their own way of working, or change other properties of the DJ software. There’s a video on this too:

Right on schedule, Atomix Productions is releasing VirtualDJ 2026, almost exactly one year after the 2025 version. The latest version comes with a host of new artificial intelligence-powered features.
VirtualDJ 2026 can now read lyrics from an audio file independently and display them as part of the waveform. This is not just a cool gimmick; it also has a practical function. It makes mixing tracks with vocals clearer. You can find the part you want more quickly and play it at the perfect moment. Last year, the StemSwapSampler was introduced. Combined with the new “insight” into the audio material, it allows for even more creative mixing.

The AIPrompt Folder is a new feature in VirtualDJ 2026 that brings the power of an LLM (large language model) directly to the DJ app. It’s essentially like having ChatGPT in VirtualDJ! However, it’s only a limited version, as you only get a basic AI assistant that helps you find, describe, and create lists of recommended tracks faster. Does that sound a little creepy? Of course, you don’t have to use this feature. The descriptions shown by the manufacturer in the image seem a little strange. This feature is only available to Pro license users, by the way.

The New FX Engine Offers Over 122 Effects – and Karaoke!
Even without AI, VirtualDJ 2026 has a lot to offer. How about a completely revamped FX engine? According to Atomix, it now offers over 122 effects and includes almost all of the effects from popular hardware, such as Pioneer DJ or Rane.
Now, let’s return to the new AI features in the DJ software update. The generated lyrics can be visualized with a video plugin, and the software can automatically create karaoke from audio tracks on request. That would be fun, wouldn’t it? Not only is karaoke fun, but I’m also sure that the automatic lyrics extraction sometimes produces nonsense. But maybe I’m wrong.
In any case, VirtualDJ 2026 looks like an update that all users will be happy about. In any case, the developers are proud and say: “True to our mission, VirtualDJ 2026 pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a modern DJ and introduces innovative features that will become the future norm.“
