Accounting Manager – Virginia Beach, VA $90-$95K

Position Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to manage day-to-day accounting operations and support the company’s financial reporting, manufacturing operations, audit, tax, and financial control activities. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, strong knowledge of month-end and year-end close processes, and direct experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. This is an on-site position in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and will work closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement, and other business functions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.

• Perform and oversee AP functions, including invoice review, proper coding, vendor reconciliations, payment processing, and resolution of vendor discrepancies.

• Perform and oversee AR functions, including customer invoicing, payment application, account reconciliations, aging review, collections, and follow-up on outstanding balances.

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

• Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting. • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.

• Support manufacturing accounting, including inventory, cost of goods sold, work in process, fixed assets, prepayments, and manufacturing-related expenses.

• Assist with inventory reconciliations, physical inventory counts, and inventory valuation.

• Work directly with external auditors, preparing schedules, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and responses to audit requests.

• Assist external tax professionals with federal, state, and local tax preparation, including gathering documentation and reconciling tax-related accounts.

• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial reporting as needed.

• Maintain and improve accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls.

• Assist with ERP implementation, accounting system improvements, and process automation.

• Partner with Operations, Procurement, and other departments to improve accounting processes and the accuracy and timeliness of financial information.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with Accounting preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment. Manufacturing accounting experience is required.

• Hands-on experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

• Strong experience with month-end and year-end close.

• Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.

• Experience supporting external audits and working directly with auditors.

• Experience assisting with corporate tax preparation and supporting schedules.

• Understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, fixed assets, accruals, and manufacturing accounting.

• Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Systems & Technology

• QuickBooks Online

• Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

• Microsoft Power BI

• Advanced Microsoft Excel

• Microsoft 365 applications. Experience with ERP implementations or accounting system transitions is a strong plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.

• Experience with U.S. government customers or government contractors is a plus.

• Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, or DCAA accounting concepts is a plus.

• Experience in defense, aerospace, drone/UAS, electronics, engineering, or a related manufacturing environment is a plus.

• Experience improving accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting in a growing organization.

Work Location: This position is 100% on-site in Virginia Beach, VA.
