Bitwig Studio 6.1: The Sampler Gets a Complete Overhaul
With Bitwig Studio 6.1, Bitwig goes straight after what’s probably the most-used device in the entire DAW: the Sampler. Slicing now works in every play mode, one click on the Sliced icon and your sample automatically splits into slices you can trigger from a MIDI controller or the piano roll. You can divide things up using equal spacing, beat intervals, onsets, or, thanks to the new automatic pitch detection, pitch changes, and every slice can still be adjusted by hand afterward.
Things get really interesting with per-slice looping and per-slice modulation. Every single slice can have its own modulation targets, which blurs the line between a sampler and a step sequencer pretty heavily. Very cool.
The new Intelligent Pitch Analysis replaces the classic, manual root key setup. One click on the orb icon and the entire sample dynamically tracks whatever pitch you play, in Repitch mode it even adds automatic tempo stretching on top, basically a new flavor of Auto-Tune, just for entire samples instead of vocals.
For the time-stretching crowd, 6.1 brings a new play mode called Spectral. The Preserve Onsets function keeps transients intact while stretching, and combined with automatic tempo detection, getting samples in time becomes almost effortless. On top of that, there’s optional formant processing that can morph the tonal character anywhere from subtle to pretty wild, plus a Bend function that retunes harmonics and can even quantize them to your project’s key signature.
The second new mode is called Fragments, built for granular sound design. Up to 256 independent grains per voice, each with its own playback rate, direction, position, and size, that’s a serious statement for a sampler device. Slow the playback down and the grains start behaving almost like an oscillator, and the Repeats function lets grains repeat up to sixteen times for genuinely dense textures.
The classic Repitch mode also picks up two new characters, Analog (saturation and tape flavor) and Digital (90s sampler vibe all the way to total destruction), and Cycles now merges sampling and synthesis with pulse width adjustment, phase modulation, and a new Duophonic mode. All of the Sampler updates work inside the Grid too, by the way, combinable with over 230 modules, including Grid-exclusive features like triggering grains via signal input.
Rounding things out, there’s a new Bell filter, improved multisample editing with automatic round-robin when you drag multiple samples onto a track, and a new Tuner that uses the same pitch detection as the Sampler itself.
The Bitwig Studio 6.1 public beta is available starting today, free for all Bitwig Studio, Producer, and Essentials users with an active Upgrade Plan as of June 18. Bitwig is planning the full release for summer. The reworked Sampler and the new Tuner are available in every edition, while Spectral and Fragments stay exclusive to the full version of Bitwig Studio.

[26 February 2026] With Bitwig Studio 6, arriving on March 11, you are not only getting a wave of powerful new features, you can still download and test the Public Beta right now. This gives you early access to tools such as Automation Clips and Clip Aliases, allowing you to expand your workflow before the official release. The beta version is available to all users with an active upgrade plan and offers a hands-on preview of the next generation of this DAW.

Bitwig Studio 6 will be released on March 11, 2026. All users with an active Upgrade Plan as of August 27, 2025 will receive the update free of charge. If you held a valid plan on that cutoff date, the new version will be delivered automatically on release day with no additional fees. Further details will follow.
Bitwig Studio 6: More Creativity with Automation Clips and More!
Bitwig Studio 6 takes the development of this creative DAW to the next level. The update delivers technical improvements and expands key features so consistently that the software feels completely reimagined in many areas. The focus is on striking a balance between a faster workflow and profound creative possibilities. Particularly exciting are the expanded automation features, the project-wide key signature and the redesigned GUI. The latter gives you even more freedom to optimise your workflows and make them easier to implement.
A particular highlight of Bitwig Studio 6 is the extensive automation upgrade. Every detail has been refined to make curves more intuitive and precise to edit. Alongside simplified gestures, new features include “Spread”, which enables you to generate random values, and “Hold”, which maintains constant values until the next point. Similarly, inserting automation clips changes the workflow permanently, as they can be used, looped and edited just like audio or MIDI clips. This brings automation processes closer to the heart of the creative process, not just the fine-tuning at the end of a project.
Automation Reimagined!
Bitwig Studio 6 also introduces clip aliases, making it much easier to control patterns and structures across a project. Rather than creating countless duplicates of a clip, a single alias is sufficient and automatically adjusts all associated clips when changes are made. This makes life much easier for sound designers who create complex arrangements with many repetitive elements. However, those who prefer to work independently can remove clips from the alias structure at any time. This feature is complemented by the new project-wide key signature function, which is integrated directly into the piano roll. This automatically adjusts notes to the desired scale and also dynamically follows this setting for note FX.
Visually and functionally, a lot has also changed: the Bitwig Studio 6 interface has been modernised and now offers more customisation options for individual workflows. Tools such as the new spray can tool and the improved audition tool enable you to work directly within the arrangement. Layer editing has been overhauled to enable the simultaneous and clear editing of multiple clips. Meanwhile, new security features ensure that older projects are automatically saved when opened, so experimenting with the new version poses no risk.
Bitwig Studio 6 Comes with a Major Update for an Even Better Workflow
This update demonstrates how Bitwig Studio 6 can be made more stable, flexible and creative. This update is a clear signal to music producers who focus on both structured compositions and experimental sound design. The mix of innovative tools for modern music production and classic workflows that have been refined to fit seamlessly into today’s production standards is particularly exciting. Bitwig is likely to impress not only existing users, but also appeal to new musicians looking to try out a new DAW.
