POSITION SUMMARY
ViDARR is seeking a hands-on Drone Builder / Electrical Integration Technician to assemble and produce unmanned aerial systems and related robotic platforms. This role is focused on precision soldering, electrical integration, wiring, component installation, troubleshooting, and repeatable bench production. The ideal candidate has strong soldering skills and an intermediate understanding of electrical fundamentals; drone or robotics experience is preferred, but an engineering degree is not required. This is a build-focused position, not primarily a flight-test or engineering leadership role.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble multirotor drones, fixed-wing aircraft, and other unmanned or robotic systems from prototype through repeatable production.
- Perform precision soldering on flight controllers, electronic speed controllers, motors, power-distribution components, connectors, cameras, GPS units, radios, sensors, and wiring.
- Fabricate and install wiring harnesses, connectors, power leads, signal wiring, and related electrical assemblies.
- Install propulsion systems, avionics, communications equipment, batteries, payloads, frames, mounts, housings, and 3D-printed components.
- Read and follow engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, component datasheets, bills of materials, work instructions, and assembly travelers.
- Conduct continuity, voltage, polarity, resistance, power-on, communication, and basic functional checks before systems move to quality inspection or flight testing.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, wiring, mechanical, and integration problems, including shorts, open circuits, poor connections, incorrect polarity, and failed components.
- Perform basic flight-controller, ESC, radio, or firmware setup only as needed to validate bench-level electrical integration and system functionality.
- Maintain accurate build records, including serial numbers, as-built configurations, component changes, inspections, discrepancies, corrective actions, and rework; communicate buildability or documentation issues to engineering and quality personnel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and accountable production workspace.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year of hands-on soldering, electronics assembly, electrical integration, avionics, robotics, or similar technical assembly experience.
- Demonstrated ability to create clean, reliable solder joints on small electronic components, PCBs, connectors, motors, power wiring, and signal wiring.
- Intermediate understanding of electrical and electronic fundamentals, including voltage, current, resistance, power, polarity, continuity, grounding, power distribution, and series/parallel circuits.
- Ability to diagnose common electrical issues including shorts, open circuits, voltage drops, poor connections, incorrect polarity, and damaged components.
- Experience using soldering stations, heat guns, wire strippers, crimpers, multimeters, hand tools, and basic power tools.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, component datasheets, assembly instructions, and bills of materials.
- Ability to understand and communicate using standard engineering and manufacturing terminology, including revisions, tolerances, specifications, work instructions, and configuration changes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to perform repetitive bench assembly while maintaining consistent workmanship and quality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineering, production, quality, and operations teams.
- Ability to perform bench assembly for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and satisfy applicable U.S. work-authorization, customer, facility-access, and security requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two or more years of experience building or repairing unmanned aerial systems, FPV drones, target drones, fixed-wing aircraft, UGVs, robotics, RC aircraft, or similar electronic systems.
- Experience integrating flight controllers, ESCs, brushless motors, receivers, GPS units, video transmitters, CMOS or thermal cameras, radios, and other UAS electronics.
- Experience fabricating wire harnesses and installing crimped, locking, or military-style connectors.
- Experience with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software for reviewing, modifying, or creating basic components and assemblies.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting FDM 3D printers, preparing prints, and working with additive-manufactured components.
- Experience in defense, aviation, electronics manufacturing, robotics, prototype development, or another quality-controlled technical environment; military technical or engineering-technician experience is a plus.
- Relevant soldering or electronics assembly certifications (e.g., IPC J-STD-001 or equivalent) are preferred. Candidates with strong hands-on experience may be considered without a current certification; company-sponsored certification may be provided after hire based on role requirements.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Produce safe, reliable, professional-quality systems with minimal rework or component damage.
- Meet production schedules and build-volume expectations while maintaining documentation, configuration control, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrate a hands-on, production-oriented mindset and maintain focus during repetitive technical assembly without sacrificing workmanship or quality.
- Identify and promptly escalate design, supply-chain, assembly, documentation, or quality issues; demonstrate accountability, teamwork, urgency, and continuous improvement.
